Movie Review (continual)

OK, so I have come to the conclusion that if Robert & Ebert give 2 thumbs up, we don't watch it. If they give it two thumbs down, it's probably a great movie!!! If they win all sorts of awards at the Grammies, again, we probably won't like them at all. Some fine examples:

*No Country for Old Men - (DEB) terrible!!! lost brain cells and valuable time watching this senseless movie.
*There will be Blood - (DEB) same exact thing. terrible. what are people thinking when they say these movies are good, or even worse, great?? are they on drugs, or what????
*The Painted Veil - GALS
*The Game Plan - GFM

*The Bee Movie - GFM
*We Own the Night - DEB
*Evan Almighty - GFM
*Transformers - T
*I Am Legend - T

*Resurrecting the Champ - GFM (with the exception of a handful of unnecessary language)

*National Treasure 2 - GFM

*Sweeney Todd - DEB - HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!
*Untraceable - T - disturbing images though & a hand full of choice words
*The Final Season - GFM

*Moondance Alexander - GFM

Steph's Ratings:

DEB-
don't even bother

GALS-
good adult love story

GFM-
good family movie

GREAT!!

T-
tolerable

Starting A New

The time has come where I actually have some time to write and share! Amazing I know.

First news update is The Old Opera Cafe has been open now for over a year. We actually just celebrated our 1 year anniversary the last weekend in March. Time has flown by, I can't believe that it's actually been a year. We have learned so much, and have grown so much as well; in several different ways. Our store is beautiful as you will see. I know I started a page to show you all the step by step progress as we went along, but as you can tell, it was time to WORK, not type, so I wasn't able to do that. I have included some photo's though of our finished product for you to see what our place looks like. It's always a great day at The Old Opera Cafe! Hopefully you will at one time or another be able to see it in person.

Second news update: We are ready to take on another project. "Are you crazy" you might ask..... well, what exactly defines crazy? We were not seeking to open another location, but were approached about it by a resident of Story City. They said, "What will it take for you to come to Story City?" My response of course, "cash." So, we are going to open another store in Story City Iowa! It's about 20 minutes north west of Nevada where our current location is. It is going to be a full restaurant, offering a full breakfast, lunch, as well as a full dinner menu and dessert. Wine, beer, appetizers, etc. We are very excited about it, and don't have many details to share at this time. We have much paper work in the "works" that will determine when we will actually open. Definitely by fall. We have a few investors and have a few more that we are seeking out to help finance this adventure.

We are so very excited about this new journey that we are about to embark on. I'll try to keep this updated a little more frequently than I have in the past year!!! Are you laughing? I haven't written anything in the last year!! Sorry about that. I'll try my best to keep you up to date!

Thanks for checking in with the Mehmens!

Phase One Complete!

Hellooooooooooooooooo!
Our framers started on Monday Jan. 8th, and completed their job on Friday Jan. 12th, and PASSED INSPECTION! Yippee! Photo's are from the same angle, as the first set, with the framing completed. As you can see, we will have two little "step up" areas to both the right and left of the front door.
Our electrician will start tomorrow, Wednesday (17th) and will hopefully be done by Tuesday.
Our plumbers are going to start Thursday (18th) and will take I think 4 days.
Our heating and cooling guys are planning on coming in next week, as well as our insulator. Drywallers will come in when these people are finished.
We hope to have all of these items competed (and passed inspection) by the end of Jan.
Wish us luck!

In The Begining....

This is the first set of pictures of our building, after completion of demolition, and what you see is the bare bones of our soon to be beauty!
This first picture is taken standing in the middle of the building looking at the current back door. So, the kitchen is going to be in the middle of the back of the building all the way to the left of the building. On the right of the kitchen, in the back will be a storage room, and in front of that storage will be the bathroom. Does that make since? If not, sorry, you'll have to wait to see more pictures I guess . I don't know how to better explain it.
This second picture is taken standing in the middle of the building looking at the current front door. The current windows on both sides of the front door as well as above the door is those glass blocks. We are taking those out and replacing them all with double paned windows so people can see whats going on inside the shop, as well continue to allow the beautiful light to come in. The current front door will be replaced with a glass door as well. (can't wait to show you!)

Welcome and enjoy!

Hello and welcome to the Mehmen's blog! I thought this would be a great way to keep you all posted and updated on the lives of the Mehmens! Enjoy.

Today is January 8th, and at home we are making thank you cards for our fabulous Christmas gifts. We had a wonderful Christmas. It's funny how it seems like forever for Christmas to get here, but then it seems as though the last two weeks of December don't even exist, because they fly by like a whirlwind, and it's Jan.1 already. Brad has been busy since the 2nd of January working over at our building in Nevada.

For those of you who don't know, Brad and I are opening a coffee shop in Nevada, which is the next town over. We've owned the building for a couple years now, just sitting on it, and it's finally come to us what we're supposed to do with it. I am so excited, and can hardly stand it. So, you will be able to see photo's and get the latest progress of the shop here on our blog spot. The name of our shop is The Old Opera Cafe. Why you ask? Because at one time, there was a opera house on the top half of our building, that is no longer there. We wanted to bring something back to the community that was once there, and bring it back in a way. We thought that the community would really appreciate that. We have old black and white photo's that we will be enlarging and hanging in the shop, and hence will be the "theme" or the feel if you will. I can't wait for you all to see either in person, or here on the blog. My opening date goal is for March 1st. Brad's is April 1st. Only time will tell. God's timing is always the best timing.

Well, that is all for this entry. I am not sure exactly what this blog will look like, but I feel that this is a good start. Just a quick update, and to wish you all a happy new year!
